Registration and certification: Health products must comply with relevant EU regulations. In Spain, companies must ensure that their products are registered or certified with the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) (such as for nutritional claims, etc.). Product manufacturers must comply with EU Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements and be able to provide relevant certification documents.
Label requirements: The label must be in Spanish and include the product name, ingredient list, efficacy description (in accordance with EFSA’s claims), method of consumption, shelf life, storage conditions, manufacturer and importer information, etc. The label should be clear and accurate and must not contain content that misleads consumers. For products containing allergens, they must be clearly marked in accordance with EU regulations.
Import process
Submit an import declaration: Before the goods arrive at the Spanish port or airport, the importer shall submit an import declaration through the EU unified customs declaration system (such as EU Single Window), providing detailed cargo information, transportation information, commercial invoice, packing list and other documents.
Customs inspection: Spanish customs and relevant health regulatory authorities may inspect the goods to check whether the products comply with EU and Spanish regulations and standards, including product quality, label compliance, etc.
Pay taxes and fees: Pay tariffs, VAT and other taxes and fees according to the value and category of the goods. The tariff rate is determined according to the HS code of the product and the relevant EU trade agreements.
Release to the market: After completing the inspection and paying taxes and fees, the goods can be released to enter the Spanish market for sales and distribution.
Precautions
Pay attention to EU regulatory updates: EU health product regulations will be continuously updated and improved. Importers need to pay close attention to regulatory changes, adjust products and import strategies in a timely manner, and ensure compliance operations.
Establish a quality control system: Establish a strict quality control system with Chinese suppliers to ensure that product quality meets high EU standards from raw material procurement, production and processing to product packaging.
Pay attention to market promotion compliance: When promoting products in the Spanish market, the content of the promotion must comply with EU regulations on health product promotion to avoid exaggeration or false propaganda.
