Precautions for Cross-border Logistics in Brazil

The Brazilian customs are known for their strictness and complexity, and customs clearance is quite difficult. During customs clearance, documents such as commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and certificates of origin are required, and all documents must be filled in Portuguese and authenticated by Brazilian embassies or consulates abroad. Brazil has strict reviews of the classification and valuation of imported goods, and the customs have the right to conduct 100% physical inspections of the goods. For products such as electronics, mechanical equipment, and auto parts, additional import licenses or certifications may be required. In addition, Brazil requires that wooden packaging must be heat-treated or fumigated and marked with the IPPC logo.

In terms of taxation, Brazil’s tariff rates are relatively high, with an average of about 12%, and the tax system is complex, including import duties, Industrial Products Tax (IPI), Value Added Tax (ICMS), etc. In terms of transportation, Brazil’s main ports include Santos, Rio de Janeiro, and Vitória. However, port congestion is severe, the logistics infrastructure is backward, and transportation efficiency is low. It is recommended to choose logistics providers with local customs clearance and transportation resources and plan transportation routes in advance to avoid losses caused by logistics delays.
