Sea Shipping to Singapore: Special Arrangements for Loading and Unloading of Dangerous Goods

The Singapore Port Authority has strict control over the transportation of dangerous goods. Ships carrying dangerous goods are not allowed to dock at the wharf and must unload at the dangerous goods anchorage, then be transported by barges to the warehouse designated by the Port Authority for delivery to the consignee, with the costs borne by the shipowner. Due to the huge throughput of the Singapore port and the busy wharf operations, this regulation is formulated to reduce the potential risks of dangerous goods in the wharf area. When the shipowner is transporting dangerous goods to Singapore, it should require the shipper to pay a dangerous goods subsidy in advance to cover the additional loading, unloading and transportation costs. At the same time, the shipper must ensure that the packaging and marking of dangerous goods comply with international standards and provide complete and accurate dangerous goods transportation documents. Otherwise, the goods may be refused loading and unloading, causing a series of delays and cost problems.
