India’s Tariff Regulations and Pest-Proof Packaging Standards
Indian customs require imported goods to be marked with 6-digit HS codes (using Indian tariff schedules). Commercial invoices must be certified by the Indian Embassy in China, indicating FOB value and origin. Under the Plant Quarantine Act, wooden packaging must pass IPPC certification and provide English fumigation certificates, prohibiting untreated log packaging (prone to carrying pine wood nematodes). Food products must display “FSSAI certification number”; otherwise, they cannot be imported.
India’s climate is humid, so packaging must be mold resistant, using moisture-proof paper or film to wrap goods with outer boxes marked “HUMIDITY PROOF”. Electronic product packaging must meet BIS certification requirements with ISI marks displayed. Battery products must be individually packaged with “Do Not Short Circuit” warnings. Packaging materials should avoid straw, gunny sacks, and other pest-prone materials, with clear shipping marks on outer boxes (including importer name, address, and letter of credit number).
