South Korea’s KFTA Certification and Environmental Packaging Standards
South Korea implements a “pre-declaration system” under the Customs Act. Before goods arrive at the port, importers must submit electronic declarations through South Korea Customs’ UNI-PASS system, including detailed cargo information and HS codes (using Korea Customs Service numbers). Under the Basic Environmental Act, packaging materials must meet recyclability requirements, displaying Korean recycling marks (e.g., “재활용 가능”) and material codes (e.g., 01 for PET).
Electronic products must pass KC certification, with packaging displaying KC marks and certification numbers. Battery products must meet KC 62133 standards. Food packaging must pass KFDA certification, marked with “식품접촉재료 인증” (food contact material certification) and must not use fluorescent brighteners. South Korea has strict requirements for packaging printing, prohibiting inks with excessive lead content. Outer boxes must have clear Korean labels (including product name, specifications, and importer information) with clear printing.
