Saudi Arabia’s SASO Certification and High-Temperature Resistant Packaging Requirements
Saudi Arabia implements a SASO (Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization) certification system. All imported goods must meet SASO standards and display SASO marks; otherwise, they will be refused entry. Under the Imported Goods Inspection Law, goods must undergo inspection by SGS or INTERTEK upon arrival at the port, providing English or Arabic inspection reports. Missing reports will cause customs clearance delays.
Packaging must adapt to Saudi Arabia’s high-temperature environment (summer temperatures up to 50°C). Plastic packaging must pass temperature resistance tests (72 hours at 60°C without deformation), with outer boxes marked with Arabic “التحميل小心” (Handle with Care) and sun protection symbols. Food packaging must meet SFDA standards, displaying Arabic ingredient lists and shelf life, and must not use PVC materials. Liquid product packaging must adopt anti-expansion designs with bottle mouth sealing performance tested at pressures no less than 0.2MPa to prevent high-temperature leakage.
