Nigeria’s SONCAP Certification and West African Logistics Packaging Requirements
Nigeria implements strict import regulations through its SONCAP (Standards Organization of Nigeria Conformity Assessment Program) system. All regulated products must obtain SONCAP certification before shipment, with mandatory pre-export verification by approved agencies (e.g., SGS, Intertek). Customs declarations must be submitted through the Nigeria Customs Service “e-Customs” platform.
Packaging must withstand challenging logistics conditions, with ruggedized designs for both port handling and inland transportation. Water-resistant packaging is essential during rainy seasons, with outer cartons requiring minimum 32 ECT (Edge Crush Test) rating. Food products must display NAFDAC (National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control) registration numbers. Electrical products need “Nigeria Approved” labels with 220V voltage markings. Wooden packaging must be ISPM 15-certified with clear fumigation markings visible on all sides.
