Thailand’s FDA Regulations and Tropical Humidity Packaging Standards
Thailand’s import regulations are governed by the Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Customs Department. All food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals require FDA registration before import, with Thai-language labeling mandatory. Declarations must be submitted through the “Thai Customs e-Service” platform, using Thailand’s 10-digit HS code system. Electrical products need TISI (Thai Industrial Standards Institute) certification, displayed on packaging.
Packaging must combat Thailand’s high humidity (average 85%), with moisture barriers (minimum 50μm thickness) for all paper-based materials. Wooden packaging requires Thai Ministry of Agriculture fumigation certification, marked with “ตรวจสอบแล้ว” (Inspected) stamp. Perishable goods use “เย็น” (Cold) marked packaging with temperature indicators that alert if 8°C threshold is exceeded. Consumer products must display “วันที่หมดอายุ” (Expiry Date) in dd/mm/yyyy format with Thai numerals also acceptable.
