Colombia’s ICONTEC Standards and Andean Biodiversity Packaging Requirements
Colombia’s regulations are enforced by the Colombian Institute of Technical Standards (ICONTEC), requiring ICONTEC certification for regulated products. Declarations are submitted via the “DIAN” customs system, with Spanish documentation. Pharmaceuticals have additional requirements from INVIMA (National Institute for Food and Drug Surveillance).
Packaging must protect against Amazon humidity and Andean cold. Moisture barriers (60μm) are mandatory for paper packaging, while highland shipments require thermal insulation. Food packaging displays “Información Nutricional” in Spanish with “Fecha de Vencimiento” in dd/mm/yyyy format. Eco-friendly packaging is encouraged, with “Reciclable” marking required for plastics. Wooden packaging needs ICONTEC-approved ISPM 15 certification with Colombian Agricultural Institute stamp.
