Pet Food Shipping to Brazil: MAPA Import Permits and Transportation Essentials

The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) enforces a strict licensing system for pet food imports. All products must be declared in advance through Brazil’s Electronic Import System (SISCOMEX) and obtain import permits. Required documents include component analysis reports, manufacturing enterprise registration certificates, certificates of origin, veterinary health certificates, etc. Products must not contain ingredients prohibited by Brazil (such as certain artificial additives).

Packaging materials must comply with Brazil’s environmental standards, adopting moisture-proof and crush-resistant designs. Labels should be in Portuguese, specifying product name, ingredients, applicable pet types, feeding instructions, net content, shelf life, country of origin, and manufacturer information.

For transportation, sea freight (30–40 days) is the primary choice. Direct shipping routes are recommended to reduce transshipment risks. Air freight (7–10 days) is suitable for high-value or urgent orders. During customs clearance, MAPA and customs conduct joint inspections, focusing on verifying document completeness and whether products meet Brazil’s animal health standards. It is advisable to communicate with Brazilian importers in advance to ensure documents comply with local requirements.
