Quarantine Standards and Transportation Solutions for Shipping Pet Food to Canada

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) implements strict quarantine regulations for pet food imports. All products must comply with the Canadian Food and Drug Regulations (FDR). Before transportation, documents such as ingredient lists, nutritional analysis reports, and manufacturing factory registration certificates must be submitted. If the products contain meat or fish ingredients, veterinary health certificates and official animal health certificates from the country of origin must be provided, and the raw materials must come from countries or regions recognized by the CFIA.

Packaging materials must pass Canadian environmental protection certification and adopt sealed packaging to prevent moisture and oxidation. Labels must use both English and French to indicate product names, ingredients, feeding suggestions, net content, shelf life, and other information. If the products claim to have special effects (such as promoting coat health or joint protection), relevant scientific evidence or certification documents must be provided.

For transportation, air freight is suitable for urgent orders, taking 5 – 7 days. The freight for less – than – container – load (LCL) sea freight is about 350 – 550 yuan per cubic meter, and the transportation time is 25 – 35 days. It is recommended to choose containers equipped with temperature – control devices to avoid affecting food quality due to temperature changes. During customs clearance, the CFIA will conduct document reviews and laboratory sampling inspections on the goods, focusing on checking for prohibited ingredients or pathogens.
