Denmark follows EU TPD regulations but has unique rules for e-cigarettes enforced by the Danish Medicines Agency (DKMA) and the Danish Customs and Tax Administration. Nicotine-containing e-cigarettes are treated as medicinal products if marketed for smoking cessation, requiring a marketing authorization—this adds complexity to imports.
For general imports, e-cigarettes must adhere to TPD limits: 2ml tanks and 20mg/ml nicotine. Labels must be in Danish, with warnings like “Nikotin er vanedannende” (Nicotine is addictive) and a health hazard symbol. Non-nicotine devices must still comply with electrical safety standards (EN 60335).
Transporting e-cigarettes to Denmark requires compliance with REACH regulations for chemical substances in e-liquids. Ensure all ingredients are registered in the EU Chemicals Agency (ECHA) database. Lithium batteries must be packed to prevent damage, with each package labeled according to UN 3480.
Customs clearance requires a detailed commercial invoice, including the EORI number of the importer. A certificate of origin may be needed for tariff exemptions. Denmark imposes a 25% VAT on e-cigarettes, and customs may inspect shipments to check for illegal flavors (e.g., menthol, which is banned in Denmark).
