Transportation Compliance Key Points under the Supervision of ANSES for Shipping Pet Food to France

The French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES) is responsible for the supervision of pet food imports. Products must comply with EU Feed Regulations and French local standards. Before transportation, they must be registered in the relevant EU systems and provide detailed ingredient lists, nutritional test reports, and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certifications of manufacturing enterprises. For products with meat ingredients, veterinary health certificates and raw material traceability documents must be provided.

Packaging should use food – grade environmentally friendly materials. Labels must use French or English to indicate product names, ingredients, applicable pet types, feeding suggestions, net content, production dates, shelf lives, and other information. If the products claim to be organic or natural, corresponding certifications must be provided.

Transportation can be air freight (3 – 5 days) or sea freight (30 – 35 days). It is recommended to choose temperature – controlled transportation according to product characteristics. During customs clearance, the French customs and ANSES will conduct joint inspections, focusing on checking the payment of tariffs (5 – 15%) and value – added tax (20%) and whether the products meet French food safety requirements. Entrusting local customs brokers can improve the customs clearance efficiency.
