Transportation Specifications under EU Standards for Shipping Pet Food to Germany

As a member state of the European Union, Germany implements dual standards of EU Feed Regulations and the regulations of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL). Imported pet food must be registered in the EU Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) and provide component analysis reports, ISO 22000 or FSSC 22000 quality management system certification certificates. For products with meat ingredients, it is necessary to prove that the raw materials come from farms in third – countries recognized by the EU.

Packaging must meet the safety standards of German food contact materials and adopt sealed moisture – proof designs. Labels must be in German or English, indicating product names, ingredients, applicable pet types, nutritional ingredient tables, production dates, and shelf lives. Transportation methods can be air freight (4 – 6 days) or sea freight (30 – 35 days). Pay attention to 防冻 in winter and 防高温 in summer.

During customs clearance, the German customs and BMEL will conduct joint inspections, focusing on checking whether the products meet EU food safety standards and whether value – added tax (19%) has been paid. It is recommended to cooperate with local customs brokers and prepare documents such as certificates of origin and commercial invoices in advance to ensure smooth customs clearance.
