Belgium’s EU Customs Procedures and Multilingual Packaging Standards
Belgium, as an EU core state, follows strict EU customs procedures with multilingual requirements. Declarations are submitted via the “Belgian Customs e-portal” with the EU’s ICS2 security screening for high-risk goods. The Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FASFC) inspects food imports, requiring full ingredient transparency.
Packaging uses standardized EU pallet sizes (1200x800mm) for seamless transport across Europe. Multilingual labeling (Dutch, French, German) is mandatory for consumer products, with “Inhoudsstoffen” (Ingredients) listed in all three languages. Pharmaceuticals require “CE” marked packaging with batch numbers and Dutch/French expiry dates (“Vervaldatum” / “Date d’expiration”). Sustainable packaging must meet “Ecologo” standards with minimum 40% recycled content for plastics.
