Malaysia’s ACFTA Benefits and Halal Packaging Requirements

Malaysia offers preferential tariffs under ACFTA (ASEAN-China Free Trade Area) but requires strict compliance with local standards. Halal products must obtain JAKIM certification, with packaging displaying the green Halal logo and Arabic “حلال” symbol. Customs declarations must be submitted through the Digi-Customs system, with English or Malay documentation accepted.

Tropical climate packaging is essential, with moisture barriers required for all paper-based packaging (minimum 30μm polyethylene coating). Electrical products must meet SIRIM certification standards, with voltage information clearly marked (240V, 50Hz). Wooden packaging must comply with ISPM 15 and be marked with the Malaysian Agricultural Department’s fumigation stamp. Consumer goods must display “Tarikh Luput” (Expiry Date) in dd/mm/yyyy format.
