Sea Shipping from China to Mexico: NOM Standards and Maquiladora Programs
Goods shipped from China to Mexico must comply with Normas Oficiales Mexicanas (NOM) standards, especially for electrical goods and toys. Products that don’t meet these standards are detained or destroyed. Mexico’s maquiladora programs allow for duty-free import of raw materials and components from China for assembly, with finished goods exported. For such goods, a maquiladora registration certificate is required. Mexican Customs uses the Automated Commercial System (SAT) for declarations, so electronic submission of documents is mandatory.
