Sea Shipping to Côte d’Ivoire: Regulations on Bills of Lading, Manifests and Transit Goods
The Abidjan Customs stipulates that the names of goods listed in the bill of lading and manifest should be specific and detailed, and cannot be replaced by cargo categories. If the above regulations are not followed, the carrier’s customs fines arising therefrom will be borne by the shipper. This helps the customs to accurately identify goods and strengthen supervision. For goods transiting through Abidjan to landlocked countries such as Mali and Burkina Faso, the bill of lading, shipping documents and cargo transportation packaging must indicate “Transit through Côte d’Ivoire” to be tax – exempt, otherwise additional taxes will be levied. Shippers and freight forwarders should strictly fill in the bill of lading and manifest in accordance with customs requirements when handling cargo transportation, and describe the name, specification, quantity of goods in detail. For transit goods, it is necessary to ensure that the relevant documents and packaging are accurately marked with “Transit through Côte d’Ivoire” to avoid additional tax expenses due to negligence.
