Sea Shipping to Saudi Arabia: Requirements for Cargo Transshipment, Packaging and Time Limit for Taking Delivery of Goods
The Saudi government stipulates that all goods shipped to Saudi Arabia are not allowed to be transshipped via Aden, which is related to Saudi Arabia’s shipping strategy and regional security considerations. The Port Authorities of Jeddah and Dammam stipulate that all goods shipped to these two ports must be palletized at the port of shipment, and containerized goods must also be palletized before being loaded into containers, which helps to stabilize the goods during loading, unloading and transportation and reduce cargo damage. The net weight of each bag of bagged goods shall not exceed 50 kg, which is convenient for manual handling and standardized warehouse management. The contents of the goods documents must be detailed. If the consignee is a bank, the detailed name and address of the final holder of the bill of lading shall be specified to ensure accurate delivery of the goods. The consignee must take delivery of the goods within two weeks after the ship arrives at the port, otherwise the goods will be auctioned to urge the consignee to clear customs and take delivery in time, so as to improve the efficiency of cargo turnover at the port.
