Test items required for textile exports to Europe
I. Basic test requirements
Textiles exported to Europe need to meet a series of strict EU regulations and standards, mainly including the following types of tests:
- Physical performance test
Dimensional stability test: dimensional changes after washing/dry cleaning
Color fastness test:
Color fastness to washing (ISO 105-C06)
Color fastness to rubbing (ISO 105-X12)
Color fastness to perspiration (ISO 105-E04)
Color fastness to light (ISO 105-B02)
Fabric strength test:
Tensile strength (EN ISO 13934-1)
Tear strength (EN ISO 13937-2)
Seam slippage (EN ISO 13936-2)
Pilling test (EN ISO 12945-2)
Fabric composition analysis (EN ISO 1833 series)
- Chemical substance restriction test
Restricted substances required by REACH regulations:
Azo dyes (EN 14362)
Formaldehyde content (EN ISO 14184)
Heavy metal content (lead, cadmium, mercury, etc.)
Phthalates (EN 14372)
PFOS/PFOA perfluorinated compounds
Nickel release (EN 1811)
Tests required by OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 (if applicable)
II. Additional requirements for specific products
- Infant and toddler textiles
Safety test of small parts (EN 14682)
Safety of straps (EN 14682)
More stringent restrictions on chemical substances
- Protective clothing
Corresponding protective performance tests are required according to the use (such as fire protection, anti-static, etc.) - Household textiles
Fire performance test (according to product category)
III. Certification and labeling requirements
CE mark (applicable to PPE personal protective equipment)
Eco-label (EU Ecolabel, voluntary certification)
Textile name and label (Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011)
Fiber composition label
Care label (EN ISO 3758)
IV. Testing agency selection
It is recommended to select the following accredited laboratories:
EU-approved third-party testing agency
Laboratory with ISO 17025 qualification
Able to issue EU-approved test reports
V. Notes
Different EU member states may have additional requirements
Regulations are updated regularly, please pay attention to the latest version
It is recommended to confirm specific testing requirements with the importer before exporting
Consider product compliance throughout the life cycle
The above tests can ensure that textiles meet EU market access requirements and avoid returns or legal risks due to quality issues
